BCCI Snatches Central Contract from 7 Players Including Shikhar Dhawan, Ishan Kishan, and Shreyas. Everyone’s Cricket Career seems at Stake.

BCCI has started retrenchment in the Indian cricket team. BCCI has decided to exclude 7 players including Indian wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan from their annual contracts. This contract of BCCI is from 1 October 2023 to 30 September 2024. Apart from Ishaan and Shreyas, the players who have been kept away from the central contract by the board include experienced batsmen Cheteshwar Pujara, Yuzvendra Chahal, Shikhar Dhawan, Deepak Hooda and Umesh Yadav.

Of these, except opener Shikhar Dhawan, the remaining 6 players played their last international match last year i.e. in 2023. Due to these players being out of the central contract, the market of speculation on their careers has become heated. People wonder whether the careers of these players are over now.

Shreyas Iyer was included in Grade B while Ishan had a Grade C contract which he has now lost. That means Shreyas has suffered a loss of ₹ 3 crore annually and Ishaan has suffered a loss of ₹ 1 crore. Left hand batsman Ishan played his last international match in T20 against Australia on 28 November 2023 in which he was out for 0 run after playing 5 balls and Shreyas played his last Test match against England on 5 February this year in Visakhapatnam.

Shreyas had scored a century in the ODI World Cup semi-final while in a World Cup edition, he became the first Indian to score 500 plus runs in the middle order. He has also been the vice-captain of Team India in many series. Different types of reactions are being seen by people on social media. People on social media say that now these players hardly get a chance to play any match. Although some are hopeful that these players can still make a comeback.

Indian player Cheteshwar Pujara, who has known the new wall of Team India in test cricket, has also lost his Grade B contract. Currently, Pujara is playing in the Ranji Trophy. He performs brilliantly in Ranji but the BCCI dropped him from the central contract. Right-handed batsman Pujara has played 103 Tests and 5 ODI Internationals for India. This player from Saurashtra was once called the New Wall of Team India. Leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has also lost his Grade C contract. Chahal has also been out of the team for a long time.

The contract was also snatched from the all-rounder who scored a century in T20. Opener Shikhar Dhawan and all-rounder Deepak Hooda, who were dropped from Team India by BCCI, have also been stripped of their Grade C contracts. Dhawan has been away from Team India for a long time. Dhawan played his last international match in the year 2022. Deepak Hooda also earned a lot of name in cricket in 2021-22.

This player, who scored a century in T20, was being kept in the T20 team continuously but due to continuous poor form, he was dropped from the team and now he has also lost his contract. Experienced and fast bowler Umesh Yadav, who was a part of the Test team for the last few years, has now also been out of contract and had a Grade B contract.
